Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to San Miguel School?

You can contact admissions via admissions@sanmigueldc.org or 202-810-8204 to set up an appointment to get started.

How much does it cost?

All families pay a nominal fee based on total household income. We treat each family on a case-by-case basis. On average, our families pay about $705 for one academic school year. That fee includes books, technology use and student activity/extracurriculars.

How is San Miguel different from a public school?

From our academic curriculum to our enrichment and extracurricular activities, we prepare our students for the challenges of competitive college-preparatory high schools and colleges. Personalized learning is the core of San Miguel’s rigorous programming. We focus on the individual learning needs of each student and offer one-on-one support when needed. Before graduation, we help each student  find the right private high school to continue his education. We are a small school with small classroom sizes to optimize the best learning experience for our students. We offer religious instruction and a value-based curriculum. Each student is provided an iPad to supplement his daily learning.

Do you have to be Catholic to attend?

No, you do not have to be Catholic. We welcome students of all faiths and beliefs. At San Miguel, students will learn about Lasallian and Catholic traditions, values and teachings through our classes and spiritual programs offered.

Are uniforms required?

We do have a uniform code. Families will need to purchase polo shirts used during the warmer months of the school year and button-up shirts with ties for the colder months. The uniform shirts have our school logo embroidered on them. We also have a physical education uniform that we require students to wear for outdoor activities.

Does the school provide meals?

Yes. We offer breakfast and snacks to all families for free through the National School Lunch Program with the Office of State Superintendent of Education. Families need to fill out an application to apply for free and reduced meal benefits for lunch. Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch.

Are sports and other activities offered at San Miguel

Yes. We offer soccer (varsity and junior varsity), basketball (varsity) and flag football (varsity). We also have various clubs such as (but not limited to): Music Club, Ambassadors, Robotics and Student Government

What is a typical day like at school?

Students start classes at 8:30 a.m. and finish their day at 5 p.m. They have seven classes on average for the entire day. In between, they will have their lunch break as well as two recess periods outside. Near the end of the day, students will be in study hall for about an hour where they can get ahead on their homework assignments, projects and any other work that requires being at the school. On certain days, students will have an opportunity to be involved in extracurricular activities during their study hall time.
