Our Commitment to Our Students Extends Far Beyond Their Graduation

San Miguel’s graduate support program seeks to ensure that all students have the option to attend competitive college preparatory high schools, Catholic or independent, and once there, that they graduate from high school with an emphasis on college attendance. We are a middle school promoting high school success and college aspirations.

Our graduate support program starts in the early grades but focuses on our eighth graders.  Students receive standardized test preparation, essay support, help with financial aid application, and guidance in the areas of academic planning, high school preparation, and college planning and career exploration. Eighth graders and their families receive support throughout the high school application process. We work closely with many of the DC metro-area’s most selective high schools to place our students.

From the very start—the day students and parents come in for orientation at San Miguel—we tell our students that they are coming to San Miguel because they are preparing for college.
— Alfonso Motta, Director of Graduate Support

When our graduates attend one of our partner high schools, they not only receive a great education, they receive services and resources from our graduate support program as well as a strong financial aid package. San Miguel continues to support its graduates through high school with regular check-ins to ensure success during their freshman year, followed by check-ins every other month or quarterly during their sophomore, junior and senior years. Graduates also receive guidance and assistance with college applications and visits.

Through the hard work of the San Miguel community, our students and graduates consistently achieve impressive results:

100 percent of our students have the option to continue their studies at college-preparatory high schools

100 percent of our alumni graduate from high school (compared to a rate of less than 65 percent for the peer group of Latino males in DC public schools)

More than 85 percent of our graduating alumni attend college—double the national average for Latinos

San Miguel School sends its alumni to some of the nation’s most prestigious independent schools, colleges and universities.
