Welcome to San Miguel School

Maureen Appel, President of San Miguel School

Maureen Appel,

President of San Miguel School

I have had the privilege to be this school’s president since July 2019. Even though I had spent more than 20 years in my career as a Head of School at other institutions, I was not prepared for my first visit to San Miguel School. We have wonderful people in this community – excellent trustees, donors and a committed faculty and staff.

But the students, they won my heart. At the end of the day, they made me want to come to San Miguel.

As I spoke with each of those students, they looked me in the eye and gave me a firm handshake. They told me about their favorite virtues. One young man said, “I need to be more patient. I am working to be more grateful.” Those 12 Lasallian virtues, given to us by St. Jean Baptiste de La Salle are etched in the main staircase at our school. And our community seeks to embody them every day.

That is our work at San Miguel. Our mission is to transform lives through education. And if you are reading this message, you can be a part of our success. Many of you have made it possible for our boys and alumni to live a better life. To lead a life not just about academics, but about faith and lifelong skills for success.

We now have 397 graduates who have gone on to distinguish themselves in college and their careers. Our students and graduates are accomplishing great things academically and beginning to make their mark professionally. On August 8, 2023, our hallways and classrooms returned to life with the start of San Miguel’s 2023-2024 school year. It is such a joy to see the bright, hopeful faces of our new and returning students.

Whether you are a prospective student, a parent looking for affordable private school options in the Washington region, someone interested in volunteer opportunities or seeking a philanthropy where your generosity can have maximum impact, I invite you to learn more about our wonderful institution.

Live Jesus in our Hearts … Forever!

Maureen Appel
