San Miguel School Soccer Team Wins Second Consecutive Championship
San Miguel School on June 13 won its second consecutive championship in the Washington, D.C., CYO 14U Boys Soccer league.
The San Miguel team defeated by a 2-0 score the team from the Shrine of St. Jude. The playoffs and final match were played at the Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Kensington, Maryland.
The championship game was tied in the first half and San Miguel pulled ahead in the second with goals from Brandy C. and Bladimir F.
San Miguel School teacher and Head Soccer Coach Robert Maffei credited the team’s defense for the victory. He also praised several individual players for an outstanding performance, including exceptional efforts from Gabriel M., Mateo C., Gustavo C., Ramses C., and Marvin C. – with goalkeeper Bryan M. keeping a clean sheet for the team in the final.
The dramatic 2-0 victory capped off a momentous day for San Miguel School.
Earlier in the day, 8th graders celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2021 with a ceremony at St. John’s College High School in nearby Chevy Chase.
Several students participated in graduation exercises in the morning, celebrated with family and then quickly switched gear for the short drive north on Connecticut Avenue to make it to Kensington for their final match.
