San Miguel Celebrates Eleventh Annual Scholarship Benefit

San Miguel students were the stars of the eleventh Annual Scholarship Benefit on the evening of May 4 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Annual Scholarship Benefit is San Miguel’s signature philanthropic event and helps raise a significant part of the school’s revenues every year. Thanks to the generosity of the San Miguel community, this year’s benefit raised over $600,000!

The evening started with guests visiting student exhibits that presented life at San Miguel School.  Students shared aspects of the school’s curriculum, sports, and clubs as well as highlights like the winning science fair projects. Art work, created by San Miguel students, was also on display and available for purchase.

“Happy Together” was the theme for the evening and the formal program began with a video performance of students singing this song followed by a live performance of the San Miguel Band.  The eighth grade graduating class shared their high school choices for fall, which they formally announced earlier that day.  Additionally, several speakers expressed their gratitude to the supporters in attendance for contributing to the mission of San Miguel School, including: Board President Eddie Quinn, 2019 graduate Randy Romero, President Maureen Appel, and current eighth grade student Daniel O.

“Your generosity has allowed me and many other students to receive the education that was so critically needed,” said Randy, who currently attends Georgetown Preparatory School and hopes to continue his education at the Naval Academy. “San Miguel provided me with a path in which I saw a way to be successful; this path is what filled me with a desire to be great and break the typical cycle that I saw all around me.”

Daniel shared his experience as a San Miguel student. “San Miguel has been my second home for the last three years, and along my journey I have made marvelous friendships. I have been blessed to be a part of a wonderful community.  All the students you see and have met today have been shaped into the image of a great young Miguel Man.”

The twelfth Annual Scholarship Benefit will take place in Spring 2024.
