San Miguel School 8th-Graders Celebrate Inaugural High School Signing Day

San Miguel School 8th-graders wear new shirts and hats representing their destinations for high school.

The 8th-grade class marked the inaugural High School Signing Day in San Miguel School history Wednesday, declaring their destinations for Fall 2021.

Principal David Palank congratulated the 8th-graders for their hard work and perseverance. In an academic year shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, the cohort demonstrated remarkable perseverance, Palank said. And their hard work paid off — earning admission into some of the Washington, D.C., area’s most selective private schools.

The signing day ceremony saw San Miguel students receive a hat or shirt (or both) representing their future schools. The group then gathered at the school’s front entrance facing Georgia Avenue for a group shot.

Starting this fall, the graduating 8th-grade class will attend Archbishop Carroll High School, DeMatha Catholic High School, Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, Edmund Burke School, Episcopal High School, Gonzaga College High School, Maret School, Sandy Spring Friends School, St. John’s College High School and St. Vincent Pallotti High School.

San Miguel will once again celebrate in-person commencement on June 13 for graduates and their families.
