San Miguel School Celebrates Annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
On October 7 the San Miguel School community joyfully celebrated our Latin American identity at the annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta. Students, parents, family and friends gathered at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Silver Spring for mass followed by a lively reception with food, music, and dancing.
Students processed into mass displaying the flags of their heritage as well as beautiful artistic renderings of Marian devotions from Latin American countries. Young men from all grades led worship by proclaiming the readings, the psalm, and the prayers of the faithful in both Spanish and English.
Following mass, parents served traditional food such as tamales, papusas, and empanadas amidst festive cultural decor. The Archbishop Carroll Latin Dance Team, joined by San Miguel alum Camilo (2022), performed.
San Miguel students represent more than a dozen different countries, including Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Peru. A longstanding tradition at San Miguel, the celebration is eagerly anticipated each year by the school community.
