San Miguel Welcomes Washington Capitals Hockey School

In spite of gloomy skies and a lingering drizzle, the energy was high at San Miguel School on October 5 as students learned new hockey skills under the direction of the Washington Capitals.

The assembly was facilitated by the Washington Capitals Hockey School program, which seeks to give elementary and middle school children access to hockey. The staff guided students through drills in stickhandling, passing and shooting. Then students had the opportunity to test out their new skills in face offs against their peers and their teachers.

San Miguel School first started working with the Washington Capitals Hockey School program in the fall of 2019. The program donated hockey equipment, which allowed for a full hockey unit in Physical Education at San Miguel for the first time.

This year, the Caps visit kicks off the street hockey unit in PE for all students.
