San Miguel Eighth Graders Celebrate Second Annual High School Signing Day

San Miguel School eighth-graders marked the second annual High School Signing Day on May 12, announcing their academic destinations for Fall 2022.

Principal David Palank commended the eighth-graders for reaching this important milestone. The graduating Class of 2022, which will celebrate Commencement on June 11, has navigated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020 – in the spring of their sixth grade academic years.

Despite a return to fully in-person instruction for the 2021-22 academic year (following a year of hybrid instruction in the 2020-21 school year), COVID-19 continues to pose challenges in the classroom and at home for the San Miguel community. 

This eighth grade class, nonetheless, demonstrated remarkable perseverance and resilience navigating through it all, Palank said. Their tenacity in the classroom paid off, as this year’s graduating class has once again earned admission into some of the Washington region’s most selective private high schools.

The signing day ceremony saw San Miguel students receive a hat or shirt (or both) representing their future schools. The group then gathered at the school’s front entrance facing Georgia Avenue for a group shot.

Starting this fall, the graduating eighth grade class will attend schools such as: Archbishop Carroll High School, DeMatha Catholic High School, Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, Episcopal High School, Gonzaga College High School, St. John’s College High School and St. Vincent Pallotti High School.
