San Miguel Students Take Part in Class Retreats

San Miguel students took time for reflection, prayer, and fellowship as they participated in annual class retreats in early May.

The eighth grade class enjoyed their traditional two-day retreat at Loyola Retreat House on the Potomac River in Newburgh, Maryland, on May 5 and 6. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first time students have been able to take part in the retreat since 2019.

For the first time, the sixth and seventh grade classes also participated in retreats. The sixth grade class engaged in team building and reflection at the Adventure Park ropes course in Sandy Spring. The seventh grade class visited the Franciscan Monastery where they toured the church and catacombs, prayed the Stations of the Cross, and explored the gardens. They also attended mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University.

David P., a current seventh-grader, shared that he particularly appreciated the time for reflection with his friends. He also liked learning about the monastery and catacombs.

Eighth-grader Camilo S. was also grateful for the time to reflect. “What I enjoyed most was the experience and the truly reflective moment I got. The hike was an amazing time of silence and the night prayer was an amazing time of reflection.”

Camilo was especially moved by the fraternity he experienced on this special trip. “When we sat around that camp fire and talked about the three years we have been here it felt like a family. A real family and brotherhood.”
